Dr. Kathryn Hinkelman (Katy) is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Vermont.
She joined the UVM faculty in Fall 2024 following a position as a Postdoctoral Scholar at 
Pennsylvania State University (PSU).
Dr. Hinkelman received her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering 
from PSU, advised by Dr. Wangda Zuo. She has M.S. and B.S. degrees 
in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at 
Berkeley and the University of Denver, respectively. For three years, she 
worked in the building industry designing mechanical, electrical, 
and plumbing systems for multifamily residential and commercial buildings across the nation.
She is a Phi Beta Kappa member, P.E.O. Scholar, and U.S. DOE IBUILD Research Fellow, and 
has been a major contributor to large multi-institutional projects funded by the NSF and DOE.
